Can you pay to appear in a ChatGPT answer? No. Ads sit in a labeled slot below the answer, and OpenAI now sells that slot in 52 countries. The ad business reached a 1 billion dollar annualized run rate in under 200 days. Ads reach logged-in adults on the Free and Go plans only. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education stay ad-free. Each ad is one labeled unit below the answer: a name, logo, headline, copy, image and link. Advertisers never see the chats. Check your category first. Ads are limited to a few consumer categories. Finance, health and legal are reviewed case by case, and only in the US. For click campaigns, OpenAI suggests a starting maximum bid of 3 to 5 dollars. It publishes no rate cards and no CPM floors. OpenAI says ads never change what ChatGPT says. It has not said whether ads affect which sources the answer cites. So keep earning citations inside the answer. Treat the ads as test spend: a small click campaign on decision-stage topics, with tagged links. The answer still decides. The full guide is on organikpi.com.
