Quick Start

npx -y yahoo-finance-mcp-server

Yahoo Finance MCP is a beginner-friendly Model Context Protocol server that gives your AI assistant real-time stock market data straight from natural language. Ask for a quote, a year of price history, an income statement, analyst price targets or a side-by-side comparison of several tickers, and it answers in clean, readable markdown (or structured JSON on request).

It works with any MCP-compatible client. Add one line to your config, restart, and the npx wrapper sets up an isolated Python environment for you. No API keys, no sign-up, no proxying: requests go straight to the free Yahoo Finance API.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an API key?
No. It uses the free Yahoo Finance API through the yfinance library, so there is nothing to sign up for and no key to manage. You only need Python 3.10+ and Node.js 16+ on your machine.
Which AI clients does it work with?
Any MCP-compatible client. Add a single npx line to your client's config, restart, and the 13 financial tools appear automatically.
Is the market data real-time?
Quotes are near real-time, though some exchanges may delay them 15 to 20 minutes. The server covers quotes, history, fundamentals, analyst data, options, ownership and news.
